Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2 and former developer of the Halo series, is hiring for a new team-based action game inspired by several genres. Bungie is already known to have been working on multiple games other than Destiny 2 and has now divulged some information about this unnamed title.

Over the years, Bungie has established itself as one of the best FPS developers in the world. From developing multiple Halo titles to launching Destiny 1 and 2, it has expanded the space-fantasy genre and has also managed to create a thriving live-service system for its games. Now, as it looks to end Destiny 2’s story with The Final Shape DLC, it has revealed some details about one of its other games which will be a part of Bungie’s Incubation initiative.

This comes via Bungie’s official Twitter account, where it announced work on a new title based in a “science-fantasy universe.” It also revealed that the game is inspired by “fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games,” and will be based in a comedic world. An earlier job listing revealed that Bungie is making a new game focused on competitive PvP. Since one of the openings for this unnamed title requires the candidate to be familiar with the “competitive gaming landscape,” this could be the game that previous the listing suggested.

Out of all the titles in development at Bungie besides Destiny 2, Marathon is the only one it has officially revealed. Marathon was one of Bungie’s first projects which ended up being a trilogy and cemented the developer’s presence in the FPS genre. With the revival of Marathon, Bungie is looking to turn the game into a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter based in the future on a planet called Tau Ceti, a location that was a part of the original games. Marathon‘s general manager also revealed that it will be very different from any of Bungie’s previous and current games, and will also support crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Another IP Bungie is rumored to be working on is codenamed “Matter.” Bungie trademarked this name back in 2018 when a job description revealed that Matter would be similar to Destiny. Additionally, the recent Microsoft vs. FTC court hearings also revealed some documents which claimed that Matter could launch by 2025. There could also be a major development shift at Bungie, as a recent job listing revealed that one of its upcoming IPs could run on Unreal Engine 5 instead of the current Tiger engine.
