Modern Warfare 3 campaign Open Combat missions explained – Charlie INTEL

Modern Warfare 3’s campaign brings back Task Force 141 for another globe-trotting mission, being a direct continuation of 2022’s MW2. The devs are shaking up the established campaign format by introducing Open Combat missions in Modern Warfare 3, and here’s everything we know about them.

Modern Warfare 3 has officially been revealed, bringing a brand-new campaign that sees Task Force 141 face off against classic Call of Duty villain Makarov.

Call of Duty’s campaign missions have typically been linear, where you move from A to B fighting waves of enemies. Modern Warfare 2 shook up that formula with the Recon by Fire mission, giving players free rein to explore an open area of Spain while picking off targets at range and dodging patrols.

One of the Open Combat missions takes place in the aftermath of a downed airliner, where Task Force 141 races to stop Makarov’s forces from pinning the blame on another nation. There are patrols and obstacles to dodge (or take on) and it uses a Groundhog Day-esque mechanic where failing will rewind time, letting you have another shot with the information you’ve acquired.

Replayability should also be a major factor in these missions as you can try again and approach it in a completely different way.
