Immortals Of Aveum Launches On Xbox To A Wide Range Of Review Scores

Some great, some not so great

Today’s the day for EA’s Immortals of Aveum! The new single-player first person magic shooter is available right now on Xbox (with a discount for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members), and some reviews have been going live as well.

So far, they’re a bit all over the place! We’re seeing a lot of great scores from some big outlets such as IGN, while others such as Eurogamer have been pretty critical of it. We’ll throw some examples down below.

We’ll also have some impressions to share of Immortals of Aveum here at Pure Xbox in the near future, but sadly we didn’t get access until very late, so we need a bit longer before summing up our thoughts.

CGMagazine (9/10)

“Immortals of Aveum is a must-play title for all fans of FPS and story-driven content but may isolate those unfamiliar with the genre.”

IGN (8/10)

“Immortals of Aveum is an impressively confident first-person shooter with a hearty solo campaign and fast-paced, spellcasting combat that’s spectacular to watch.”

Video Games Chronicle (4/5)

“Immortals of Aveum delivers high-octane magical action and a world we’re fascinated by. While the narrative itself is predictable and the dialogue between characters can border on excruciating, the rock-solid gameplay is a magical foundation for EA to build on and develop into something special.”

Game Informer (8/10)

“Immortals of Aveum is a great first outing, mixing the fantasy genre’s vibes, storytelling, and world exploration with the gunplay of a modern shooter.”

Game Rant (3.5/5)

Immortals of Aveum is well-executed, easy to digest, and remarkably solid, but overall incredibly familiar. Still, it may pleasantly surprise more than one shooter fan, and has enough going for it to likely attract a dedicated audience.”

Push Square (6/10)

“It’s a good first effort from Ascendant Studios, and the potential is absolutely there, but there’s a feeling that the team bit off a little more than it could chew.

GameSpot (5/10)

“The first-person shooter action of Immortals of Aveum suffers from a difficult-to-navigate control scheme and lackluster story.”

Eurogamer (2/5)

“Mixing repetitive, imprecise combat with annoying characters and a landslide of nonsensical, proper noun-stuffed lore, Immortals of Aveum is almost so bad it’s good. If only.”

The result of these highly mixed opinions is that Immortals of Aveum currently holds a 69 Metacritic rating based on the PlayStation 5 version, while the Series X version (which has far less reviews) is actually sitting on an 84.

It definitely sounds like a game that won’t suit everyone, but those who do like it seem to really like it!
