MediaTek Partners With Meta And Will Offer On-Device Generative AI With Its Upcoming Flagship SOC

Back in July, Qualcomm announced that it is teaming up with Meta to bring on-device generative AI to flagships later this year. This possibly means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is going to feature on-device AI, and we will soon see it in action, considering how the chipset will be unveiled later this year. Now, MediaTek has announced a partnership with Meta, as well, and will be bringing its Llama 2 large language model (LLM) to a flagship SoC that will ship later this year.

MediaTek Dimensity 9300 could join the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with its Llama 2 on-board generative AI

Now, MediaTek has not explicitly stated that the chipset is going to come to the Dimensity 9300, but considering how that is the flagship chipset that the company will be releasing, it is safe to say that we are going to see the new Llama 2 LLM on that, and I am really excited to see how you are going to get on-device AI.

Now, for those who are unaware, so far, the AI that we are able to use on our phones is largely through the help of the internet. For instance, using ChatGPT on your Android requires you to be connected to the internet. However, with on-device AI, that might not be required at all, and there will be other benefits, too. MediaTek has talked about how it will deliver “seamless performance, greater privacy, better security and reliability, lower latency, the ability to work in areas with little to no connectivity, and lower operation cost.”

Honestly, I am really glad that we are getting to see generative AI becoming more common. With artificial intelligence becoming a mainstay on our phones and tablets, who knows how the experience will be with the overall performance? The possibilities are endless, and I cannot wait to see more of them coming in the future. With both MediaTek and Qualcomm teaming up with Meta, there is a chance we also might see Apple and Samsung doing something with onboard generative AI for their in-house chips.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 should be debuting later this year. This means you don’t have to wait long before seeing some really cool features. Hopefully, we will get more information in the coming days, so until then, be sure to stay tuned.
