The Spanish Government has taken an important step in the development of EU Digital Identity Wallet, an application aimed at facilitating the adoption of the European Digital Identity in the country.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the EU Digital Identity Wallet application will serve, among other things, to prevent minors from accessing pages with adult content. According to José Luis Escrivá, the current phase of development of the application “will last a little more than two months, so it will be available to all citizens at the end of the summer.”
EU Digital Identity Wallet is the Spanish proposal for implementing the European Digital Identity project. It is an initiative that aims to enable any European citizen to authenticate themselves online and access public services more easily. Moreover, it would be operational in all EU countries, allowing you to use your Digital Identity to access services in your own country while being in any other member state.
In order to work, the user must first register in the application using their electronic ID, digital certificate or other similar methods. When entering an adult website, the page will ask you to confirm that you are of legal age by scanning a QR code that would appear on the screen. For now, this procedure will only be required for pornographic websites, although it is expected that more platforms will start using this verification method in the future.
