Yet, despite these killer additions, I’m still holding onto my $14/month YouTube Premium subscription — and it all comes down to three critical features I just can’t live without.

YouTube Music Premium: My Running Companion

I wear a Garmin Venu 4 as my daily smartwatch and primary running companion. Here’s the problem: Apple Music, my go-to music service, doesn’t have a Garmin app. YouTube Music does.

This means every time I lace up my running shoes, I’m relying on YouTube Music to download albums and playlists directly to my watch. While I use Apple Music for everything else, YouTube Music has become my essential running partner.

For many users, Premium Lite will be the perfect solution. If you primarily watch YouTube on Wi-Fi, don’t care about music streaming, and can tolerate sponsored content, the $8 plan is an absolute steal.

Why I’m Staying Put

But for power users like me who rely on YouTube Music for workouts, use Jump Ahead daily to skip sponsorships, and depend on the mobile queue for gym sessions, the full $14/month Premium plan still makes the most sense.

It’s not about the money — it’s about the features that have become integral to how I use YouTube. Until Premium Lite includes these capabilities, I’ll be happily paying the premium price for the premium experience.
