V-Copter Falcon Mini: one-minute review

From ZeroZero Robotics, the innovative drone company behind the impressive HoverAir X1 Pro and ProMax selfie drones, comes another game-changing model: the V-Copter Falcon Mini. This sub-250g version of the original V-Copter Falcon, released in 2020, is poised to take the drone world by storm with its unique bi-copter design.

The original Falcon gained a cult following for its distinctive look and agile flight, but its 26.8oz / 760g weight kept it from going mainstream. With the launch of the more regulator-friendly sub-250g Falcon Mini, ZeroZero Robotics is aiming to bring the bi-copter experience to the masses.

So what makes the Falcon Mini so interesting? It’s all about the bi-copter design – instead of the standard four rotors, this drone has just two. This unique configuration makes the Falcon Mini extremely agile and remarkably quiet compared to traditional quadcopters.

You can even install the propellers upside down to fly the drone in Reverse Flight mode, which is a bit gimmicky but showcases the innovative tilt-rotor mechanism that keeps the drone stable in a hover and during flight.

While the Falcon Mini does have a camera capable of 4K 30fps video and 12MP JPEGs, it’s clear that this drone is more about the flying experience than image capture. The camera is fully automatic with no manual controls, so you’re at the mercy of the light meter. For most pilots, the real fun will be in zipping around upright and in Reverse Flight mode.

V-Copter Falcon Mini: price and release date

The Falcon Mini will officially launch at the end of February 2026, following a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that raised $519,461 from 1,338 backers. The drone will be available on Amazon US at launch, with two kits available: Standard and Fly More Combo.

The Standard kit will retail for $379 in the US, while the European launch will follow by the end of March with a price of £379. The Fly More Combo, which includes extra batteries, a charging hub, and a carry bag, will cost $399 / £399.

The Standard kit is the single-battery option, while the Fly More Combo is the better value for most pilots due to the extra flight time provided by the additional batteries.

V-Copter Falcon Mini: Design

The Falcon Mini’s unique bi-copter design is impossible to ignore. Instead of the standard quadcopter layout, this drone has just two rotors mounted on folding arms that create a distinctive V shape in the sky.

At certain angles, the compact size and two-arm design can make the Falcon Mini tricky to spot in the sky. When folded, the drone measures just 7.24 x 3.74 x 2.36 inches / 183.9 x 95 x 59.9mm, and extends to 5.91 x 8.98 x 5.12 inches / 150.1 x 228.1 x 130mm when unfolded. It weighs 8.78oz / 249g and is available in Matte Black or Canary Yellow.

To compensate for having only two rotors, ZeroZero developed proprietary tilt-rotor controls and twin servo motors that precisely adjust the angles of the propellers to create balance and stability. These also enable fast acceleration by tilting the propellers forward.

The Falcon Mini’s design is not just for show – it serves a functional purpose. The bi-copter layout makes the drone extremely agile and much quieter than quadcopters. ZeroZero claims the Falcon Mini is 50% quieter than a quadcopter, which makes sense given it has 50% the rotors and motors. In testing, the drone was noticeably quieter than many quadcopters I’ve flown.

V-Copter Falcon Mini: Features and performance

The Falcon Mini flies much like a standard quadcopter, but with a few key differences. Most notably, it’s considerably quieter thanks to the bi-copter design. Flight doesn’t feel dramatically different from a quadcopter, despite only having two rotors. The tilting rotors and independent movement of each rotor allow for sharp turns and quick acceleration.

The drone has three flight speeds: Normal (up to 8.9mph), Sport (up to 26.8mph), and Turbo (up to 35.8mph). Sport mode is likely to be the most used, as it’s comparable to Normal on other drones. Normal and Sport are accessed via buttons on the controller, while Turbo is accessed through the V-Copter app alongside Orbit and Zoom Out automated flight modes.

The real standout feature is Reverse Flight mode, which allows you to fly the drone upside down. To enable this, you have to refit the propellers upside down and use the included Reverse Flight Kit, a plastic bracket that locks the propeller arms in their extended position. Reverse Flight makes the drone even more agile, and with the propellers facing down you have to use hand take-offs and landings.

For Reverse Flight, you’ll definitely want to be in an open outdoor area to reduce the risk of crashing. When flying indoors due to lack of GPS signal, the Falcon Mini switches to an indoor flight mode with slower, less responsive flight. This isn’t really the type of drone you’d typically want to fly indoors, unlike the HoverAir X1 Pro/ProMax with their built-in propeller guards.

Video transmission is 1.5 miles, which is shorter than some drones offering transmission over six miles or more. During testing, even when flying just a few hundred meters away in open space, I occasionally received low-signal warnings and experienced lag in the camera view on the app screen.

Where the Falcon Mini really excels is in its flight performance. The combination of fast acceleration, agility, and the unique Reverse Flight mode make this one of the most fun camera drones to fly before moving up to FPV drones like the DJI Avata 2 for the most thrilling flights.

V-Copter Falcon Mini: Image and video quality

Despite being categorized as a camera drone, the Falcon Mini comes with an extremely basic camera. This is what makes me think this drone is designed more for fun flying than for serious image creation. The camera features a 12MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, which appears to be the same spec as the original V-Copter, although it could be a different, newer sensor.

The camera can capture video in 4K at 30fps, 2.7K up to 50fps, and 1080p at 50fps, while vertical video is captured in 2.7K at 30fps. Photos can only be captured in JPEG format, which is disappointing as raw files provide more editing flexibility. You can capture photos in both landscape and portrait format.

The camera is fully automatic – you just aim and shoot – so it’s very easy to use but offers no control over exposure. It’s best to shoot with the sun behind the drone to avoid overexposure or underexposure, which does limit creativity somewhat.

Despite having only 50% of the rotors of ‘standard’ camera drones, the Falcon Mini’s 3-axis mechanical gimbal keeps footage smooth and allows you to adjust the camera’s angle depending on what you’re shooting, as with most drones.

There’s also a Night Mode for shooting in low light which optimizes the automatic camera for night capture. It works well, and I found most photos and videos captured at night to be satisfactory, but you can see heavy image processing in both cases, and the results are far from professional quality.
