NotebookLM Unleashes Major Gemini 3.1 Pro & Slide Customization Overhaul

In a sweeping wave of AI-powered updates, Google’s NotebookLM has just leveled up with the arrival of Gemini 3.1 Pro, advanced slide customization, and mobile app enhancements that are set to redefine how users interact with digital notebooks.

Gemini 3.1 Pro Powers NotebookLM Pro & Ultra Plans

NotebookLM users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra now have access to Gemini 3.1 Pro, Google’s latest flagship model boasting enhanced reasoning and problem-solving capabilities. This upgrade significantly boosts the tool’s ability to process complex queries, generate deeper insights, and assist with advanced analytical tasks. Whether you’re synthesizing research papers or brainstorming creative projects, the enhanced model promises sharper, more accurate outputs.

Slide Customization Gets a Major Facelift

NotebookLM’s slide generation feature just became far more flexible. Users can now customize generated slides directly within the Studio panel by clicking the pencil icon next to the slide title. A fullscreen editing interface appears, allowing you to modify text, color schemes, visuals, and overall design. Once satisfied, simply hit “Generate new deck” to refresh your presentation with your edits. This feature is now available to all NotebookLM users.

Export flexibility also gets a boost: slides can now be exported in both PDF and PPTX formats, with Google Slides export support on the way soon.

Mobile App Customization & Productivity Features

The NotebookLM mobile apps (available on Android and iOS) now include powerful video overview customization options:

• Choose between Explainer (default) or Brief formats
• Select specific sources to feature
• Pick from a range of visual styles: Auto-select, Classic, Whiteboard, Heritage, Paper-craft, Watercolor, Anime, Retro print, and Kawaii
• Add custom prompts to guide AI host focus
• Select language preferences

The app is also introducing the ability to open Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Drive files directly in their respective apps or a new browser tab if not installed. Plus, Chat Suggestions are rolling out to help kickstart conversations with contextually relevant prompts that evolve based on your interaction history.
