Google Pixel 8 display problems: Repair program enables 3 years of free service

Since the launch of the Google Pixel 8 (approx. 513 euros at Amazon, limited-time deal), there have been an increasing number of reports from users complaining about a vertical line on the display. This can manifest itself in different ways – the color and intensity of the line varies, for some users, it is permanently visible on the display, for others only in certain apps, for others the line disappears periodically, only to reappear a few hours later.

Google has so far repaired affected devices under the Pixel 8’s one-year warranty. Before the warranty of the first Pixel 8 sold ends in October, Google has a repair program, which will repair this defect free of charge for three years from the date of purchase. The program also applies to a problem where the Pixel 8’s display flickers. However, this program only regards Pixel 8s with selected serial numbers, so you should check with Google or an authorized repair service provider to see if the repair is covered.

According to Google, the entire display will be replaced in the event of a repair. Google would like to point out that smartphones with a cracked display or water damage are not eligible for a free repair through this program, in which case Google will charge a fee for the repair. Before sending in for repair, customers should back up their data in their Google account and activate the Pixel 8 repair mode. This program only applies to the Pixel 8, but not to the Pixel 8a or Pixel 8 Pro.
