MWC 2026: The Biggest Tech Show of the Year is Here – And It’s Packed with Robots, AI, and Ultra-Thin Phones

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 officially kicked off on March 2 in Barcelona, Spain, and the tech world is already buzzing with excitement. This year’s event promises to be a game-changer, with major announcements from industry giants like Honor, Xiaomi, Leica, and Tecno. From robot phones to ultra-thin tablets, AI-powered gadgets, and groundbreaking camera technology, MWC 2026 is shaping up to be a showcase of innovation like never before.

Honor’s Robot Phone: The Future of Smartphones?

Honor is stealing the spotlight with its highly anticipated Robot Phone, a smartphone that’s as much a tech marvel as it is a conversation starter. The device features a camera mounted on a 4-degree-of-freedom gimbal that folds out from the back, transforming the phone into a mini robot. During a live demo, the camera bobbed to music, nodded in agreement, and even mimicked human gestures like cocking its “head.”

Specs-wise, the Robot Phone boasts a 200-megapixel primary sensor, three-axis stabilization, and advanced camera modes like Super Steady Video and AI Object Tracking. While Honor hasn’t revealed pricing or availability yet, the phone is expected to launch later this year. For a deeper dive, check out our hands-on review of the Robot Phone.

But that’s not all from Honor. The company also unveiled its Magic V6, touted as the thinnest foldable phone in its category at just 8.75mm when folded. It features a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 50-megapixel triple-camera setup. The international version comes with a 6660mAh battery, while the Chinese variant boasts a massive 7000mAh battery.

Honor also introduced the MagicPad 4, claiming it to be the world’s thinnest Android tablet at just 4.8mm thick. It sports a 12.3-inch 165Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, and a 10100mAh battery. With spatial audio and eight speakers, it’s a powerhouse in a slim package.

Xiaomi x Leica: A Match Made in Photography Heaven

Xiaomi is making waves with the global launch of its 17 Ultra smartphone, a photography-focused device developed in partnership with Leica. The phone features a 1-inch 50-megapixel main sensor, a 200MP telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. It also includes a manual zoom ring for added control.

The 17 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and boasts a 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED display with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Its 6000mAh silicon-carbon battery ensures all-day usage. Starting at £1,299 (roughly $1,750), it’s a premium offering for photography enthusiasts.

Leica also unveiled its Leitzphone by Xiaomi, a rebranded version of the 17 Ultra with Leica’s signature design and camera interface. Priced at €1,999 (roughly $2,362), it offers the same specs but with Leica’s iconic branding and filters.

Xiaomi didn’t stop there. The company also announced the Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro tablets, both measuring 5.75mm thick and weighing 485g. The Pro model is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, while the regular Pad 8 uses a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. Additionally, Xiaomi introduced the UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 and the Xiaomi Tag, its answer to Apple’s AirTag.

Tecno’s Modular Smartphone Concept: Thin, Flexible, and Futuristic

Tecno is pushing the boundaries of smartphone design with its modular concept phone, which can be as thin as 4.9mm in its base configuration. The phone features 10 interchangeable modules, including camera lenses, a gaming attachment, and a power bank, all connected via magnets. This innovative approach to modularity could redefine how we think about smartphones.
