Dyson’s new stain-spotting AI robovac is now available
Dyson has once again shaken up the home cleaning industry with the launch of its latest autonomous robot vacuum, the Spot+Scrub AI. Unveiled at IFA 2025 in Berlin, this new robovac represents a significant evolution in Dyson’s cleaning technology, blending advanced AI, laser detection, and self-cleaning capabilities into a single, sleek device.
The Spot+Scrub AI is the successor to Dyson’s 360 Vis Nav, which debuted in 2023. While the Vis Nav was a solid performer, the Spot+Scrub AI takes things to a whole new level. Priced at $1,199, it matches the cost of its predecessor, but the upgrades are anything but incremental. This is Dyson’s most ambitious robovac yet, and it’s designed to tackle the messiest of homes with minimal human intervention.
One of the most notable changes is the shift from vision-based navigation to lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. Lidar allows the Spot+Scrub AI to map your home with incredible precision, creating a detailed 3D model of your space. This means it can navigate around obstacles like socks, wires, and even pet toys with ease. But that’s not all—Dyson has equipped the Spot+Scrub AI with green lasers that can detect and identify stains. These lasers don’t just find the mess; they also determine when the area has been thoroughly cleaned, ensuring no spot is left behind.
The roller mop is another standout feature. Unlike traditional robot mops that require manual cleaning, the Spot+Scrub AI’s roller mop cleans itself as it moves around your home. It can also extend by 1.6 inches to reach tight spaces along walls and under furniture, making it a true all-in-one cleaning solution.
The multifunction dock is where the magic happens. It automatically drains and refills the Spot+Scrub AI’s water tanks, empties its dirt bin without the need for disposable bags, and thoroughly cleans the roller mop during charging. This means you can go weeks without touching the device, making it a true set-it-and-forget-it solution.
However, not everything about the Spot+Scrub AI is perfect. During a hands-on demo last year, The Verge’s Jennifer Pattison Tuohy noted that the dock is quite large, which could be a dealbreaker for those with limited space. Additionally, some critics have pointed out that the design lacks the signature Dyson aesthetic that fans have come to expect. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Spot+Scrub AI is a significant step forward for Dyson’s robovac lineup.
It’s worth noting that Dyson’s previous attempts at robot vacuums haven’t quite lived up to the hype of its iconic stick vacuums. But with the Spot+Scrub AI, the company seems determined to change that narrative. The Verge will be conducting a full review soon, so stay tuned to see if this new robovac can finally deliver on Dyson’s promise of a smarter, more efficient cleaning experience.
For now, the Spot+Scrub AI is available for purchase through Dyson’s physical stores and website. If you’re in the market for a high-tech cleaning solution that combines vacuuming and mopping with minimal effort, this might just be the device you’ve been waiting for.
