This is the tech product I’m most excited for this year
Garmin Cirqa: The Wearable That’s Got Tech Enthusiasts Buzzing for 2026
In a world where smartphone upgrades have become as predictable as the sunrise, there’s one device that’s got the tech community genuinely excited for 2026. It’s not another flagship phone with marginally better specs or a tablet with a slightly improved display. No, it’s the upcoming Garmin Cirqa – a smart band that’s poised to revolutionize how we think about wearable technology.
The Wearables Landscape: A Sea of Sameness
Let’s face it – the wearable tech market has become a bit… boring. Every year, we see incremental improvements to our favorite devices. The Galaxy S26 series and Pixel 10a have already hit the shelves, offering modest upgrades that, while impressive, fail to excite. The same goes for tablets, headphones, and laptops. If your current devices are less than three years old, there’s barely any reason to upgrade.
But then there’s the Garmin Cirqa – a device that’s not just an upgrade, but a reimagining of what a wearable can be.
From Forerunner to Cirqa: A Personal Journey
To understand why the Cirqa is so exciting, we need to look at its predecessor – the Garmin Forerunner 745. This device has been a workhorse for many, including myself. It tracks everything from steps and runs to sleep patterns and heart rate with precision. But as time has passed, my relationship with it has changed.
I’ve stopped using it as a smartwatch and started using it as a data provider. Features like Garmin’s Body Battery have become crucial for optimizing my health. But there’s a catch – to get accurate data, I have to wear this relatively bulky sports watch 24/7. It’s not comfortable at night, it looks out of place with a suit or at a nice dinner, and frankly, I’m tired of having yet another screen demanding my attention.
The Whoop Solution… With a Catch
What I really want is the Whoop experience – a screenless, distraction-free band that disappears on the wrist. But there are two major dealbreakers with Whoop:
1. The subscription model: Whoop essentially rents you your own data. Using it for years results in a hefty bill.
2. The ecosystem: I’ve spent years in the Garmin Connect ecosystem. Moving to a new system means losing my historical trends and learning a whole new data language.
Enter the Garmin Cirqa – a device that promises to solve both of these problems.
Say Hello to the Garmin Cirqa
Based on recent leaks from Garmin’s own regional websites, we know the Cirqa is a smart band (not a watch), which almost certainly points to a screenless design. It will reportedly come in two sizes (S/M and L/XL) and two colors: black and a sophisticated French Gray.
Here’s why it’s my must-buy:
1. One-time purchase: Garmin hasn’t historically paywalled its metrics. If the Cirqa follows the Garmin tradition, I’ll buy the hardware once and own my data forever.
2. Distraction-free: No notifications, no glowing screen in bed, no “move” alerts on my wrist. I’ll check the stats on my phone once or twice a day and then go back to living my life.
3. The fashion factor: It’s slim enough to hide under a shirt and stylish enough to wear with just about any outfit.
The Competition: Not Quite There Yet
While there are already several Whoop competitors out there that don’t charge a subscription, none quite hit the mark for a Garmin loyalist like me. The Amazfit Helio Strap, for example, is a popular choice at $100. But our reviews noted a few issues:
– Battery life, while decent at 10 days, is still way below what the Whoop offers.
– Past experiences with Amazfit smartwatches have left some users wary of the brand.
There are others as well, like Polar Loop, which I don’t find as appealing as the upcoming smart band by Garmin.
The Future is Screenless
The Garmin Cirqa hasn’t been officially announced yet, but with the leaks appearing in late January, a May or June launch seems likely. It’s the first time in years I’ve been excited about a wearable – not because it does more, but because it does exactly what I need while doing less.
In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with notifications and screens, the Cirqa represents a return to simplicity. It’s a device that understands that sometimes, less is more. And for many of us, that’s exactly what we’ve been waiting for.
So, are you excited for the upcoming Garmin Cirqa? With its promise of a screenless design, one-time purchase model, and seamless integration with the Garmin ecosystem, it’s certainly got the tech world buzzing. Here’s to hoping it lives up to the hype when it finally launches in 2026.
