Your Claude chats just got more powerful with interactive app support

Anthropic has just transformed its AI chatbot Claude from a simple conversational tool into a full-fledged productivity powerhouse. By integrating interactive apps directly into the chat interface, Claude now allows users to perform complex tasks—drafting Slack messages, designing in Figma, managing projects in Asana, or creating visuals in Canva—without ever leaving the conversation. This isn’t just an incremental update; it’s a fundamental reimagining of what an AI assistant can be.

At the heart of this leap is the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a framework Anthropic introduced in 2024 to standardize how AI systems communicate with external applications. With MCP, Claude can securely connect to a growing list of productivity tools, including Amplitude, Box, Clay, Figma, Hex, monday.com, and Slack. The rollout is initially available to paid subscribers on Pro, Team, Max, and Enterprise plans, while free-tier users will have to wait.

Activating the feature is straightforward: users visit claude.ai/directory, link their accounts, and instantly gain a live, authenticated window into their favorite apps—all within Claude’s interface. This seamless integration means you can, for instance, pull a file from Box and update a Canva design in a single workflow, all guided by Claude’s contextual understanding.

This move also dovetails with Claude’s newly launched Cowork mode, which enables multi-step, hands-on task execution without writing a single line of code. The combination of app integrations and Cowork positions Claude as not just an assistant, but a true digital teammate—one that can manage, create, and collaborate across your entire digital workspace.

Anthropic isn’t alone in this evolution. OpenAI introduced a similar capability to ChatGPT last October, and has since expanded its library of integrated apps and opened a developer publishing pipeline. Both companies are racing to turn their chatbots into central hubs where work happens, not just questions are answered.

The implications are profound. By collapsing the boundaries between conversation and action, Claude is setting a new standard for productivity in the AI era. It’s no longer about asking an AI for help—it’s about working alongside one, in real time, across all your tools. As more apps join the ecosystem and the technology matures, the line between human and AI collaboration will only blur further.
