Google To Introduce New Adaptive Thermal Feature for Pixel Phones and Seeks Your Help to Address Overheating Issues

When it comes to overheating, Android phones proactively take necessary measures with built-in features to help combat the issue and prevent the phone from getting exposed to extreme heat. Users are given warnings about a heating problem, and the Pixel phones, especially intelligently, slow down some of the phone’s functionality, such as the charging speeds, and in a dire situation of overheating, the phone would automatically turn off to avoid incurring major damages. Now, this is being taken one step ahead with a new feature coming to the device to prevent the problem from arising in the first place.

The Latest Version of Google’s Device Health Services app is working on giving more descriptive warning for Pixels

Even though the Pixel devices warn about the phone getting warm, the steps to take care of it and automatic cooling seem to suffice. Google did not seem to stop there, as it is now working on bringing even a more detailed warning to the Pixel phones. As reported by Android Authority, the company is bringing a new feature to the Pixel phones called “Adaptive Thermal” that does not require you to go to a web browser to understand what is going on with your phone.  It was predicted that the feature might be coming in the future, according to the APK teardown.

1.23.0.638152889 version of the Device Health Service app will offer more extensive information and act more readily on the needed precautions. It would come with a pre-emergency notification that reads, “Phone needs to cool down,” and also gives a heads up of slower performance. The pre-emergency alert is activated through a battery measurement service that gives a notification when the phone reaches 49 degrees Celsius or 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It even suggests that users should avoid exposing their phones to direct sunlight and close apps that require more processing and battery life, for instance, graphics-intensive games.

The warning sign also comes with a ‘See Care’ step button that would give details on the steps the phone’s operating system is currently taking to cool down the device. It even suggests ways users can help with resolving the problem.  If you do not want to engage in the extensive information, tap the Got it button, and the dialog box will be dismissed. When you click on the Learn More option, it will take you to Google’s support page. The company will also share tips on how users can help out in tackling the overheating issue.

With the Adaptive Thermal feature, the phone would be checking every 5 minutes to see if battery temperature requires it to cool down, and in an extreme situation where the device reaches 52 degrees Celsius (126 Fahrenheit), the Pixel device would enter into an emergency state. If the phone reaches 55 degrees Celsius (131 Fahrenheit), a pre-shut dialog pops up, letting the users know the phone will be turned off in 30 seconds due to the dangerous temperature level.

The detailed overheating warnings might not be released to the Pixel devices in a public release but instead might be coming as a server-side update. The feature will basically work with the user to bring the device’s temperature down, keeping them in loop at all stages.
