Charli XCX Is a Demonic Brat in Takashi Miike’s ‘Untitled Tokyo’

Pop Icon Charli XCX Joins Forces with Horror Legend Takashi Miike for Wild Tokyo-Set Thriller

In a cinematic crossover that feels like it was plucked straight from a fever dream, pop provocateur Charli XCX is teaming up with legendary Japanese horror auteur Takashi Miike for an unhinged new thriller titled Untitled Tokyo. What first sounded like an unlikely pairing—the hyper-stylized queen of hyperpop and the director behind Audition and Ichi the Killer—now appears to be shaping up as one of the most intriguing genre experiments of the year.

According to Deadline, the film will follow three estranged best friends who reunite in Tokyo for what should be a dream girls’ trip. But, as horror fans might expect, things take a sinister turn when Charli’s character, Katie, becomes possessed by a violent and tormented spirit. What follows is a descent into bloody chaos, with Tokyo as the neon-drenched backdrop for supernatural terror.

Production is set to begin in March, and the cast is already turning heads. Joining Charli XCX are Milly Alcock (Supergirl, House of the Dragon), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice). The vengeful spirit at the center of the story will be played by Kiko Mizuhara, the multi-hyphenate actress, model, and singer known for her role in Attack on Titan.

This marks another bold move in Charli XCX’s expanding acting career. Fresh off her roles in 100 Nights of Hero and The Moment (which she also wrote and produced), as well as The Gallerist, she’s proving that her creative ambitions stretch far beyond the recording studio. She’s also set to appear in the Faces of Death remake, due in April, making this the second horror project in her rapidly diversifying filmography.

Takashi Miike, meanwhile, is no stranger to controversy or cult acclaim. With a filmography spanning over 100 titles, his work is known for blending extreme violence, surreal imagery, and pitch-black humor. Pairing him with Charli XCX—an artist equally celebrated for her avant-garde visuals and rebellious spirit—feels less like a gamble and more like a match made in genre heaven.

Untitled Tokyo promises to be a stylish, chaotic collision of Western pop culture and Japanese horror sensibilities. Whether it ends up as a cult classic or a polarizing oddity, one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be anything but boring.

Stay tuned for more updates as this bizarre and brilliant collaboration unfolds.
