Four reasons why the Xiaomi Watch 5 is now my favorite Wear OS smartwatch

Xiaomi Watch 5 Review: The Wear OS Smartwatch That Finally Fixes Battery Life

I’ve been a Wear OS skeptic for years, but the Pixel Watch 4 changed my mind about Google’s wearable platform. Now, the Xiaomi Watch 5 has completely won me over—and it’s all thanks to one game-changing feature: battery life that actually lasts.

The Smartwatch That Keeps Going and Going

After using the Xiaomi Watch 5 for nearly two weeks, I can confidently say this is the best Wear OS smartwatch on the market right now. The battery life alone makes it my travel companion of choice, but there’s so much more to love about this impressive wearable.

4 Days of Battery Life? Yes, Please!

The Watch 5 packs a massive 930mAh battery with silicon-carbon technology (the same tech found in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra). This isn’t just marketing hype—I’m consistently getting over four days between charges with regular use. That’s twice as long as the Pixel Watch 4!

In low-power mode, it can stretch to two full weeks by switching to a basic interface and using the BES2800 low-power platform. For someone who’s tired of charging their smartwatch every night, this is revolutionary.

Wear OS 6 Perfected

Xiaomi nailed the software experience on the Watch 5. The Wear OS 6 interface is buttery smooth with zero lag, and everything feels intuitive. You get all the Google apps you’d expect—Maps, Spotify, Calendar—plus Xiaomi’s own health and fitness monitoring tools.

The health sensors are comprehensive: SpO2 monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, heart rate monitoring, and a barometer. If you’re a Gemini user, you can even enable Google’s digital assistant directly on the watch for hands-free interactions.

A Display That Shines

The 1.54-inch AMOLED display with 480 x 480 resolution is bright, vibrant, and gets up to 1500 nits in high brightness mode. I used it during an unusually hot season in Hyderabad without any visibility issues. The only minor complaint is that the ambient light sensor can be a bit slow to adjust when moving between indoor and outdoor environments.

The larger screen makes everything easier to read and interact with, including mirrored notifications that show two additional lines of text compared to smaller watches.

Design That Makes a Statement

The Watch 5 is definitely on the larger side (56g), but I actually prefer that in a smartwatch. The stainless steel frame gives it a premium feel that stands out from the sea of budget-focused options. It’s water-resistant to 5ATM, so you don’t have to worry about splashes or brief submersion.

While I wish Xiaomi offered leather or steel band options instead of just fluoroelastomer, the included bands are decent quality and haven’t caused any issues during my testing.

Why This Beats the Competition

At €299, the Xiaomi Watch 5 offers incredible value compared to its rivals. It combines the best of Wear OS 6 with Xiaomi’s thoughtful additions, creating a smartwatch that’s uniquely capable.

The battery life is the headline feature, but the smooth software experience, bright display, and premium build quality make this a complete package. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast, a frequent traveler, or just someone who hates charging their devices constantly, the Watch 5 delivers where it matters most.
