Galaxy AI turns into a multi-agent ecosystem, adds deep integration with Perplexity AI

Samsung Galaxy AI Evolves into a Multi-Agent Powerhouse, Seamlessly Integrating Perplexity

Samsung is dramatically expanding the capabilities of its Galaxy AI ecosystem, moving beyond a single AI assistant to embrace a sophisticated multi-agent environment. Internal research at the Korean tech giant revealed a striking insight: nearly 80% of users regularly engage with more than two AI agents daily. Recognizing this behavioral trend, Samsung is now engineering Galaxy AI to natively support multiple AI agents, promising a far smoother and more intuitive experience for managing several intelligent assistants simultaneously.

This isn’t just a minor upgrade—it’s a foundational shift. By embedding AI agent integration directly at the operating system level, Samsung is positioning itself at the forefront of the rapidly evolving AI landscape. This deep OS-level integration ensures that new AI agents can be incorporated seamlessly, maintaining the familiar and polished Galaxy user experience users have come to expect.

The practical implications are significant. With system-level integration, users will no longer need to constantly switch between apps or repeat commands when interacting with different AI agents. This unified approach provides each agent with the necessary context for more natural, conversational interactions—effectively eliminating the fragmented, app-jumping frustrations common in today’s multi-AI environments.

Leading this expansion is Perplexity AI, which will become the first new AI agent to join the Galaxy AI ecosystem. Users will be able to summon Perplexity using the wake phrase “Hey Plex” or by assigning the side button (traditionally the power button) to trigger it. While Samsung has indicated these features will arrive on “upcoming flagship Galaxy devices,” speculation is already mounting that the imminent Galaxy S26 series—whose launch date was recently officially confirmed—will be among the first to showcase this enhanced AI capability.

Perplexity’s integration goes far beyond simple voice commands. The AI agent will be deeply embedded within Samsung’s core first-party applications, including Gallery, Notes, Calendar, Clock, and Reminder. It will also extend its functionality to select third-party applications. What sets Plex apart is its ability to handle complex, multi-step workflows intelligently—understanding context across different apps and executing tasks in sequence without requiring constant user intervention.

Samsung has promised that “additional details about supported devices and experiences will be announced soon.” Industry observers are already connecting the dots, suggesting that the upcoming One UI 8.5 update—currently in beta testing—could bring these multi-agent capabilities to existing Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series devices, democratizing access to this advanced AI ecosystem.

“We’ve been committed to building an open and inclusive integrated AI ecosystem that gives users more choice, flexibility, and control to get complex tasks done quickly and easily,” stated Won-Joon Choi, President, COO, and Head of the R&D Office at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business. “Galaxy AI acts as an orchestrator, bringing together different forms of AI into a single, natural, cohesive experience.”

This strategic move comes hot on the heels of Samsung’s earlier announcement this week unveiling an upgraded Bixby for One UI 8.5. The refreshed Bixby introduces natural language processing for system settings—allowing users to say things like “make the text bigger” instead of rigid commands—and offers real-time web search capabilities for up-to-the-minute answers to user queries.

The timing is impeccable. As the AI arms race intensifies among tech giants, Samsung’s multi-agent approach represents a significant differentiation strategy. Rather than forcing users into a single AI ecosystem, Samsung is embracing AI pluralism, acknowledging that different AI agents excel at different tasks. This open architecture could prove to be a masterstroke in user retention and satisfaction.

With the Galaxy S26 series launch on the horizon and One UI 8.5 rollout imminent, Samsung appears poised to deliver one of the most sophisticated mobile AI experiences available, setting a new standard for how artificial intelligence should function on smartphones—not as isolated assistants, but as an interconnected, intelligent ecosystem working in harmony.
