Gemini’s New Automation Powers Are About to Change How You Use Your Phone

Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, is stepping into a bold new role: your personal mobile workflow manager. The company is rolling out a feature that lets Gemini perform multi-step tasks on your phone automatically, and it’s starting with the latest flagship devices.

With Gemini task automation, you no longer need to open apps, tap through menus, or manually enter information. Instead, you simply tell your phone what you want, and Gemini handles the rest. For example, you can say, “Order me a coffee and a croissant,” and the AI will navigate the appropriate app, select your items, and build your order. It can even skip unnecessary steps and make smart choices, like picking your usual coffee size or favorite pastry.

The feature isn’t limited to single actions. You can chain together multiple steps in one command. Instead of saying, “Open Uber, then type in the airport address,” you can just say, “Get me a ride to the airport,” and Gemini will launch the ride-hailing app, input your destination, and start the booking process.

As Gemini works, you’ll receive a notification showing its progress. You can watch the automation happen live or continue using your phone for other things. However, for security reasons, Google has built in a safeguard: Gemini won’t press the final “place order” or “pay” button. After it assembles your cart or books your ride, your phone will prompt you to complete the purchase manually.

This automation system is rolling out in phases. At launch, it’s available on the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 series, starting in select regions like the United States and South Korea. Support is also limited to a handful of app categories, such as ride-hailing and food delivery. Google plans to expand both device compatibility and app support over time.

The move signals a major shift in how we interact with our smartphones. Instead of tapping and typing, we’re moving toward conversational, AI-driven experiences that handle the busywork for us. If the rollout is successful, this could be the beginning of a new era where your phone truly acts as a proactive assistant, not just a reactive tool.
