Google now helps you wipe your sensitive personal data and photos from Search

Google is taking another major step in protecting user privacy by rolling out enhanced tools to help people remove personal and explicit content from search results. With growing concerns over data exposure and online safety, these updates are designed to give users more control over what appears about them online.

One of the most significant changes is the expansion of Google’s “Results about you” hub. This feature now allows users to proactively scan for and remove search results containing sensitive government-issued identification numbers, such as passport and driver’s license numbers. By signing into your Google account and selecting ‘Results about you,’ you can track personal information and request removals directly within the tool. Google will review these requests and remove results that violate its policies, providing a streamlined way to protect your privacy.

In addition to personal data, Google is simplifying the process for removing explicit images, particularly those shared without consent. Users can now submit multiple images at once, rather than filing separate requests, making the process faster and more efficient. Once an image is removed, Google will offer an option to filter out similar explicit images from future search results, helping to prevent similar content from resurfacing.

All removal requests can now be tracked in one place through the Results about you hub, with email updates to keep users informed of any status changes. While removing information from search results doesn’t erase it from the internet entirely, it can significantly reduce the risk of misuse and protect your online reputation.

These updates come as Google discontinues its dark web reports, which previously alerted users to data breaches. The company found that these alerts didn’t always lead to meaningful action, prompting the development of these new removal tools. With these enhancements, Google is reinforcing its commitment to user privacy and providing practical solutions for managing personal information online.
