Monster Hunter Stories 3: Complete Guide to All 9 Invasive Monsters

Restoring Balance: The Invasive Monster Challenge

In Monster Hunter Stories 3, environmental restoration is a central theme, and nowhere is this more apparent than in your battles against Invasive Monsters. These enhanced creatures have invaded the dens of rare Endangered Species, taking over their habitats and disrupting the delicate ecosystem balance. Each Invasive Monster presents a unique puzzle that requires specific tactics to solve—you can’t just brute force your way through these encounters.

What makes Invasive Monsters particularly challenging is their special abilities gained from their new environments. These aren’t your standard monster fights; they’re strategic battles where understanding each creature’s specific weakness is crucial to success. The good news? You don’t always have to defeat them outright—sometimes simply making them retreat is enough to claim the precious egg inside their den.

Invasive Yian Garuga

Your first encounter with an Invasive Monster comes in Azuria, where an Invasive Yian Garuga has taken over a Rathian den on the eastern side of the region. The main story guides you directly to this battle.

Location: Eastern Azuria, Rathian den
Strategy: Break its legs using any weapon type—blunt weapons like Hammers make this significantly easier. You don’t need specific elements, just consistent leg damage.
Level: 50
Reward: Rathian egg (return later to slay it permanently)

Invasive Plesioth

Unlike the Yian Garuga, the Invasive Plesioth is completely optional. This water-dwelling monster has invaded the den of an Endangered Lagiacrus in Mirror Lake.

Location: Mirror Lake, Azuria (swim through northern channel)
Strategy: Bring a fire weapon and a monstie with fire attacks (Ratha works excellently). Target its head to break it—this is where it stores water for its devastating Invasive attack.
Warning: If you don’t break its head in time, it unleashes a massive AOE attack that can devastate your team.
Reward: Lagiacrus egg + sidequest completion when raising Lagiacrus rating to S

Invasive Seregios

The third Invasive Monster in Azuria resides in the northwestern corner of the map. You’ll need to fast-travel to Mirror Lake, catch updrafts with a flying monstie, and glide to the northwestern hill.

Location: Northwestern Azuria hill
Strategy: This battle requires a hammer with AOE abilities like Perfect Strike. Wait for the Seregios to roar with a colorful aura, then counter with the appropriate attack type based on the aura color:

  • Blue aura = Green technical attack
  • Red aura = Red technical attack
  • Yellow aura = Yellow technical attack
    Reward: Astalos egg

Invasive Shogun Ceanataur

This monster guards an incredibly popular monster’s egg in the Canalta Timberland. Find it in a cave behind a waterfall in the northern Frozen Grotto area.

Location: Northern Frozen Grotto, Canalta Timberland
Strategy: The Shogun Ceanataur’s razor-sharp claws can one-shot your party members. The key is raising an ally’s defense level to L before it performs its Invasive attack. Use defense-boosting monsties, Hunting Horns, or Armorskin items.
Reward: Mizutsune egg

Invasive Nerscylla

Located in the eastern part of Blessing Hill in Canalta Timberland, this invisible menace guards an Endangered Nargacuga den.

Location: Eastern Blessing Hill, Canalta Timberland
Strategy: You absolutely need a gunlance with Wyvern Fire or Wyvern Blaze—nothing else works. The Nerscylla is invisible most of the fight, but when you see a red line connecting you to it, that’s your cue. It’s about to use Invasive Death Scissors, so counter with Wyvern Fire/Blaze.
Reward: Nargacuga egg + subspecies unlock potential

Invasive Arzuros

This battle occurs during the main story in Canalta Timberland and rewards you with a Canyne egg, which grants the Ground Dive ability for new exploration routes.

Location: Southern tip of Canalta Timberland map
Strategy: The Invasive Arzuros draws power from honey and summons Arzuros reinforcements. Simply keep killing the summoned Arzuros until the main monster runs out of honey and retreats.
Reward: Canyne egg + Ground Dive ability

Invasive Odogaron

Found in Tarkuan, this monster has taken over an Endangered Zinogre den. You’ll need to fast-travel to a nearby Catavan Stand, catch updrafts, and glide to a western cliff, then climb walls to reach the den.

Location: Western cliff, Tarkuan
Strategy: Two requirements:

  1. A monstie with Mud Torrent ability (Almudron naturally knows it, or transfer via Rite of Channeling)
  2. A bow or gunlance to break its claws
Process: Break claws → Use Mud Torrent to inflict Mudbogged status → Monster retreats
    Reward: Zinogre egg

Invasive Diablos

The third and final Invasive Monster in Tarkuan is a Diablos located at the southern border. You can either take a small mountain path or glide over with a flying monstie.

Location: Southern Tarkuan border
Strategy: You need a hammer with Meteor Hammer ability. The Diablos burrows underground and can emerge from three different holes. It won’t emerge from the same hole twice, so you must predict its emergence. Smack it with Meteor Hammer as it pops out.
Reward: Tigrex egg

Invasive Khezu

The final Invasive Monster in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is found in Serathis, the only Invasive Monster in that region. It’s relatively easy to locate—just hop across glaciers to a hidden northeast alcove.

Location: Northeast hidden alcove, Serathis
Strategy: Prepare for paralysis with appropriate items. Fill your Kinship gauge through Head-to-Head victories and deal Wyvernsoul damage. The Khezu uses green technical attacks normally, switching to red power attacks when enraged.
Final Phase: When it uses “Learning Complete” and prepares its ultimate Invasive attack, use a Kinship skill to strike first and counter it.
Reward: Barioth egg
