Now, the company is rolling out a new set of toggles that let you strip Spotify back to its audio-only roots.

How to Turn Off Videos in Spotify

Disabling videos is surprisingly simple. On mobile, open the Spotify app and tap your profile icon in the top-left corner. From there, head to Settings and privacy > Content and display. In the “Videos and Canvas” section, you’ll find three new toggles:

• Music videos – Turns off official music videos
• Canvas – Disables the looping 3-8 second video clips that play with songs
• All other videos – Shuts down any additional video content uploaded by artists

Flip all three to off, and Spotify becomes a purely audio experience once again.

On desktop, the process is just as easy. Click your profile icon, select Settings > Display, and you’ll find the same toggles waiting for you.

If you’re managing a Spotify Family plan, you can even disable videos for other members. Just go to Your Premium > Manage, select a profile, and adjust their video settings from there. Spotify says these preferences will sync across all devices linked to the account, so you only have to set it once.

Why This Matters

For many users, this update is long overdue. Spotify has been pushing video content for years—sometimes aggressively—despite the fact that most people use the app to listen to music, not watch it. Videos can eat up data, drain battery, and, frankly, distract from the listening experience.

While the new feature is a huge win, it’s not perfect. Spotify still won’t let you turn off video ads or the looping visuals that sometimes accompany audio ads. But even with that caveat, the ability to silence the platform’s video push is a welcome change.

Some users are already calling for the next step: toggles to hide podcasts and audiobooks, so Spotify can truly become a music-first app. Until then, this update is a major victory for anyone who just wants to press play and listen.
