‘Insanely punishing’ survival game Atlas is being distilled ‘into a more accessible form’ for Ark: Survival Ascended’s new DLC
glitz said. “We’re taking a lot of lessons from Atlas about what made it fun, and we’re putting it in a package that’s a lot more approachable.”
Stieglitz said it’ll be more approachable than Atlas but still “pretty hardcore.” There will be progression, but not as much as Atlas, and it won’t be as punishing. Ships can be damaged and sunk but they won’t be completely destroyed. It’s a pirate game that won’t make you feel like you’re constantly in over your head.
“It’s not going to be as hardcore as Atlas was, but it’s also not going to be as casual as Sea of Thieves,” Stieglitz said. “It’s going to be somewhere in the middle. It’s going to be a fun, accessible experience.”
Rapczak added: “It’s more of a, ‘I want to play it, I want to sail around, I want to be a pirate, I want to find treasure.’ And then if I get sunk, I’m not like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve just lost a week of work.'”
Tides of Fortune will be released as a DLC for Ark: Survival Ascended, but it’ll also be a standalone game. “You won’t need to buy the main game to play it,” Rapczak said.
In addition to pirate ships and sailing, there will be new creatures to tame, like monkeys that can help you repair your ship and parrots that can scout out islands for you. There will also be a new crafting system that will allow you to create your own unique pirate flags and sails.
The game will also feature a new “Treasure Hunt” mode, where players can team up to search for buried treasure on islands. The treasure will be randomly generated, so each playthrough will be different.
Studio Wildcard is hoping that Tides of Fortune will be more successful than Atlas, and that it will help to revive the pirate genre in gaming. The game is set to be released in the summer of 2023.
In conclusion, Studio Wildcard is taking the lessons learned from Atlas and applying them to Tides of Fortune, a new pirate-themed DLC for Ark: Survival Ascended. The game will feature a more accessible and fun experience, with new creatures to tame, a new crafting system, and a new “Treasure Hunt” mode. The game is set to be released in the summer of 2023 and will be available as both a DLC and a standalone game.
