Inside the App Where Queer Gooners Run Free
Batemates: The New Digital Haven for Men Embracing Solo Pleasure Together
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital intimacy, a new social platform is redefining how men connect through a shared, private act: masturbation. Meet Batemates, the rising star in the world of queer pleasure, where men from across the globe gather virtually to “bate” together, fostering a sense of community, stress relief, and unapologetic self-expression.
For Jaxon Roman, a 33-year-old program analyst from Arlington, Virginia, Batemates has become more than just an app—it’s a lifestyle. One evening, Roman found himself in his element, sitting naked in front of his laptop, wearing only a pup hood, as he engaged in a live session with eight other men. “When bros praise me and say they’re enjoying [me], I get to that edge point so fast,” Roman shared. His favorite moments? “When they all come to what I’m doing.” For Roman, who identifies as bisexual, the experience is deeply fulfilling. Sometimes, he even asks for permission before climaxing, describing the release as “pure bliss” that leaves his body shaking for 10 seconds.
Roman is just one of many men who have found solace and connection on Batemates. Pitched as an “all-in-one platform designed to embrace bating as a lifestyle, together,” the app has quickly become a haven for men seeking a safe, judgment-free space to explore their sexuality. “It’s a community of like-minded people who are just trying to be porn for others, virtually, while watching others pleasure themselves,” Roman explained. “Group play with hotties around the world. What’s not to like?”
The rise of Batemates comes at a pivotal time. While the app technically launched in October 2024, it wasn’t until last year that it truly gained traction as a viable—and safe—alternative to other online bator platforms. The shift was largely driven by the pandemic, which forced men to seek new ways to connect. During Covid, virtual bating sessions exploded in popularity, with men flocking to private video channels on Skype and Zoom for digital jam sessions. These sessions often maxed out with over 100 participants, creating a sense of global camaraderie.
However, the landscape began to change in 2023. Skype shut down in May, and Zoom sessions started facing increased scrutiny. The platform’s acceptable use guidelines explicitly prohibit “sensitive content,” including nudity and material intended to cause sexual arousal. (Zoom did not respond to a request for comment.) As a result, many queer bators were left searching for a new home.
Enter Batemates, founded by 31-year-old Parisian Johan Guams. Frustrated by the corporate crackdown on adult content, Guams set out to create a space where the LGBTQ+ community could thrive without judgment. “All the corporate tools were just banning us,” Guams said. “As members of the LGBTQ+ community, we had no space. I was really upset about the hypocrisy of the situation, especially when this is something everybody does.”
Batemates’ mission is clear: to end the stigma around adult content and celebrate it as a natural part of human experience. This ethos is woven into the platform’s branding, including a recent ad on X that boldly states, “Your friends. Your boss. Your coach. Your colleague. Everyone bates.” The message is simple yet powerful: masturbation is universal, and there’s no shame in embracing it.
For Guams, the inspiration for Batemates came from his own experiences during the pandemic. While he enjoyed participating in Zoom bating sessions, he often felt disconnected from the participants. “I was like, OK, I masturbate on Zoom, but I don’t know who these people are. There’s no control. I can’t keep in touch with them. Sometimes you find crazy people. The experience just felt complicated,” he explained.
Batemates aims to solve these issues by offering a more structured, community-driven platform. Users can create profiles, connect with like-minded individuals, and participate in live sessions with greater ease and security. The app also prioritizes user safety, ensuring that interactions remain respectful and consensual.
As Batemates continues to grow, it’s clear that the platform is more than just a trend—it’s a movement. By providing a space where men can explore their sexuality without fear of judgment, Batemates is challenging societal norms and fostering a new era of digital intimacy. For men like Jaxon Roman, it’s a game-changer. “It’s not just about the physical act,” he said. “It’s about the connection, the community, and the freedom to be yourself.”
In a world where corporate platforms often shy away from adult content, Batemates is boldly stepping into the spotlight, proving that there’s a place for everyone in the digital age—no matter how they choose to express themselves.
