Intel Panther Lake Core Ultra review: Intel’s best laptop CPU in a very long time
Intel Panther Lake: The Next-Gen Powerhouse That’s About to Dominate the Laptop Market
Intel’s latest innovation, Panther Lake, is here, and it’s not just another incremental upgrade—it’s a game-changer. With its cutting-edge architecture and jaw-dropping performance, Panther Lake is set to redefine what we expect from mobile processors. Whether you’re a gamer, a content creator, or just someone who demands the best from their laptop, this is the chip you’ve been waiting for.
Unmatched Performance That Leaves Competitors in the Dust
Panther Lake’s single- and multi-core CPU performance is nothing short of revolutionary. In head-to-head comparisons, it blows past all its direct competitors, including AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the last few generations of Intel mobile processors, and even the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite. While the recently announced X2 Elite could shake things up, Panther Lake is currently the undisputed king of mobile performance.
Single-Core Dominance
When it comes to single-core performance, Panther Lake is 10% faster than its closest rivals, including the Core Ultra 200V, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, and Snapdragon chips. The only processors that can even come close are Apple’s M4 and M5, which boast slightly higher single-core performance. But let’s be real—Apple’s chips are in a league of their own, and Panther Lake is more than holding its own.
Multi-Core Mastery
Panther Lake’s multi-core performance is equally impressive. In Asus’ Performance Mode, it’s twice as fast as the Lunar Lake-based Core Ultra 7 258V and 80–90% faster than older 12th- and 13th-generation Core processors and the Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra 7 155H. Compared to the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, Panther Lake is 10–40% faster, depending on the test. This kind of performance is a dream come true for power users who need to juggle multiple tasks or run demanding applications.
Power Efficiency That Defies Expectations
But Panther Lake isn’t just about raw power—it’s also incredibly efficient. During our Handbrake video encoding test, the Core Ultra X9 388H consumed a little over 50W of power, which is 20–25W more than its competitors. However, in the lower-power “whisper” mode, the processor consumes closer to 25W, putting it on even footing with other chips. And here’s the kicker: it still transcodes videos faster than any other processor, except for the Ryzen AI Max+ chip, which has desktop-level power limits.
Performance at Lower TDP Levels
Panther Lake’s performance at a ~30W TDP level is nothing short of impressive. You get around 95% of the single-core CPU performance and 75–85% of the multi-core CPU performance, all while using about half as much power under heavy load. Even in this mode, Panther Lake manages to surpass the Ryzen AI HX 370 most of the time, proving that it’s not just fast—it’s smart.
The Future of Laptops is Here
Intel Panther Lake is more than just a processor—it’s a statement. It’s a declaration that Intel is back, and it’s ready to reclaim its throne as the leader in mobile computing. Whether you’re a gamer looking for the ultimate performance, a content creator who needs speed and efficiency, or just someone who wants the best laptop money can buy, Panther Lake is the chip that will take your experience to the next level.
So, are you ready to experience the future of laptops? Because with Panther Lake, the future is now.
