Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) is still reeling from the events of season 3 when season 4 begins, with the former superhero reeling from his father, Omni-Man (JK Simmons), murdering his girlfriend, Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs).

His world is further rocked when his half-brother, Oliver (Christian Convery), dies at the hands of a villainous new superhero, The Immortal (Ross Marquand). It’s a lot for the titular hero to deal with, and it sends him on a dark and destructive path that, as the season progresses, threatens to derail his life as an adult and parent.

Mark’s path of self-destruction is the most prominent throughline of the season, but it’s not the only one. Invincible season 4 also expands its scope to include new characters and locations that add to the show’s already sizeable lore. There’s also a sense of growing dread throughout the season’s 10 episodes that culminates in a jaw-dropping finale that will leave fans wanting more.

It’s an intense and emotional ride that, at times, can be hard to watch. But that’s also what makes Invincible season 4 so compelling. It’s not afraid to go to dark places and explore the consequences of its characters’ actions. And, as always, the voice cast is superb, with Yeun, Jacobs, and Simmons leading the way.

If you’re a fan of Invincible, then you’re going to love season 4. It’s a worthy follow-up to the first three seasons and one of the best-animated shows on TV right now. Just be prepared for some dark and disturbing moments along the way.

Invincible season 4 is available to watch now on Prime Video.
