Meet the robotics expert tearing apart the sector’s many myths

Clara Mulligan, co-founder of HomeBot Ireland, is turning everyday frustrations into innovative solutions—one robot at a time. Based in West Cork, HomeBot is a robotics company specializing in robotic vacuums, mops, and lawnmowers designed to make life simpler for families, older adults, and anyone looking to reclaim their time.

Mulligan’s journey into robotics wasn’t born from a love of technology alone—it was sparked by a real-life problem. Her father-in-law, who often mowed lawns for neighbors, struggled with a split-level garden and ended up breaking his ankle while moving heavy equipment. “HomeBot exists because there was a real problem in front of me that needed solving,” Mulligan explained. “When products are built from genuine need, they tend to work better because they are grounded in real life rather than theory.”

This philosophy is at the heart of HomeBot’s mission: to create practical, accessible solutions that integrate seamlessly into everyday life. Mulligan is quick to dispel the myth that robotics are expensive, complicated, or only for tech enthusiasts. “Technology has become much more accessible these days, enabling regular families to access it,” she said. While she joked about not yet inventing a robot that washes, dries, and folds laundry, she emphasized that the landscape of robotics is rapidly evolving.

HomeBot’s robots are designed to handle repetitive household tasks, giving people back hours in their week and reducing physical strain. “Something that feels very new at first often becomes something you wouldn’t want to live without,” Mulligan noted. “Chores that simply don’t get on the to-do list anymore because the robot will handle them for you. And the robot becomes part of the family.”

As HomeBot enters its second year of operations, Mulligan is focused on scaling the business and expanding the product range. Over the next few months, the company plans to introduce smart home robots for window cleaning and solar panel cleaning. “The goal remains the same as it was at the start: keep things simple, listen to consumers, and build technology that genuinely helps people,” she said.

Mulligan is excited about the future of robotics and its potential to improve everyday life. “There’s huge potential for technology to improve everyday life, and I am proud to be playing a small part in that.” With HomeBot, she’s proving that robotics isn’t just about innovation—it’s about solving real problems and making life a little easier for everyone.
