New OnePlus 15T camera leak disappoints
OnePlus 15T Camera Specs Leak: Same Old Hardware, But a Step Back for Zoom
The OnePlus 15T is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated compact flagships of the year, but a new leak out of China has left photography enthusiasts scratching their heads. According to a report from Weibo, the upcoming OnePlus 15T will carry over nearly the exact same camera hardware as its predecessor, the OnePlus 13T, with only a minor—and arguably disappointing—change.
The Camera Setup: Familiar, But Not Better
If the leak is accurate, the OnePlus 15T will feature a dual-camera system on the rear, consisting of:
- A 50MP main camera using Sony’s Lytia 700 sensor (1/1.56″ type) with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
- A 50MP telephoto camera using Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor (1/2.76″ type)
The main camera’s specs remain unchanged from the OnePlus 13T, including the f/1.8 aperture. However, the telephoto lens sees a downgrade in aperture from f/2.0 to f/2.8. This means the telephoto camera will let in less light, potentially impacting low-light zoom performance and overall image quality in challenging lighting conditions.
For a device positioned as a premium compact flagship, this lack of meaningful camera upgrades is a letdown, especially when competitors are pushing the boundaries with periscope zoom lenses, larger sensors, and advanced computational photography features.
What Else Do We Know About the OnePlus 15T?
While the camera news might be underwhelming, the OnePlus 15T is still expected to pack some impressive hardware under the hood:
- Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC (the latest and greatest from Qualcomm)
- Display: A 6.32-inch AMOLED screen with “1.5K” resolution (likely 1.5K or 2K+)
- Selfie Camera: A 16MP front-facing camera
- Battery: Rumored to feature the biggest battery ever seen in a smartphone of its size, making it a strong contender for all-day battery life
The combination of a powerful chipset, a large battery, and a compact form factor could still make the OnePlus 15T a compelling option for users who prioritize performance and portability over cutting-edge camera tech.
Why This Matters
OnePlus has built its reputation on delivering flagship-level performance at competitive prices, but in recent years, the brand has faced stiff competition from rivals like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Google, who have been pushing the envelope in camera innovation. The lack of significant upgrades in the OnePlus 15T’s camera system could make it harder for the device to stand out in an increasingly crowded market.
That said, OnePlus fans who prioritize speed, battery life, and a compact design may still find the 15T appealing. However, for photography enthusiasts, this leak is a reminder that not all upgrades are created equal—and sometimes, more of the same just isn’t enough.
