Samsung is upgrading the Galaxy S26 series wireless charging, but skimps on the magnets again
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is poised to deliver faster wireless charging speeds, but with a notable compromise that may disappoint some users. A recent listing on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) website has shed light on the charging capabilities of the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra, revealing both promising upgrades and a surprising omission.
According to the WPC documentation, the Galaxy S26 trio will support the Qi 2.2.1 wireless charging standard, which promises charging speeds of 20W or faster. This aligns with earlier rumors suggesting that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature up to 25W wireless charging, a significant improvement over previous models. For users who rely on wireless charging for convenience and efficiency, this upgrade is a welcome enhancement.
However, the excitement is tempered by a notable limitation: the Galaxy S26 series will only comply with the Base Power Profile (BPP) and not the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). This means that, unlike some competing devices, the S26 lineup will not include built-in magnets for seamless attachment to Qi2 accessories.
