Sarasota Sheriff’s Office Busts Alleged Illegal Gambling Operation, Seizes 66 Slot Machines

In a major crackdown on underground gaming, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has arrested a 28-year-old woman accused of running an illegal gambling house in the heart of Sarasota. Taylor Swim was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 28, following a months-long investigation that culminated in a dramatic raid on the so-called “41 Social Club.”

The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Unit, Tactical Unit, Special Investigations Section, Patrol Bureau, and the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC). According to officials, the investigation uncovered a network of illicit gambling activities operating under the guise of a social club.

During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement seized a staggering 66 slot machines, along with a significant amount of U.S. currency. The raid also uncovered a cease and desist letter that had been previously issued to the business by the SCSO in April 2025, suggesting that the operators had ignored prior warnings to shut down their operations.

“This arrest is the result of relentless investigative work and a commitment to upholding the law,” said Sheriff Hoffman in a statement. “We will continue our partnership with the Florida Gaming Control Commission to target and dismantle these illegal gambling enterprises that undermine our community’s safety and integrity.”

The seized slot machines were displayed in a press release, showcasing the scale of the operation. The machines, typically found in regulated casinos, were being operated illegally, posing risks to both players and the broader community. Sheriff Hoffman emphasized that the fight against illegal gambling is far from over, stating, “To our citizens, we hear you, and we will continue to hold these operators accountable.”

This latest arrest comes just a month after the Sarasota Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of two women accused of running another illegal gambling house in the city. In that case, a December raid uncovered 81 slot machines and cash, further highlighting the prevalence of underground gaming operations in the area.

The SCSO has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal gambling, working closely with the FGCC to ensure that such operations are shut down swiftly and effectively. As the investigation into Taylor Swim and the “41 Social Club” continues, authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activities related to illegal gambling.

Taylor Swim now faces charges of “Keeping and Maintaining a Gambling House” and “Possession of Slot Machines.” She has been booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, where she awaits further legal proceedings.
