SpaceX Eyes Satellite-Connected Smartphone Revolution, but Musk Denies It’s in the Works

In a move that could redefine global connectivity, SpaceX is reportedly exploring the development of a satellite-linked mobile device under its Starlink brand—a potential game-changer that would take the company far beyond traditional broadband services.

According to sources familiar with the matter and cited by Reuters, SpaceX is considering building a smartphone that connects directly to its Starlink satellite constellation. This would mark a bold expansion from its current satellite internet service, which already serves millions worldwide. While details on design, specifications, and release timelines remain scarce, the implications are enormous: a phone that never loses signal, no matter how remote the location.

CEO Elon Musk has previously teased the possibility. In a January 2026 tweet, he suggested that a Starlink phone “is not out of the question at some point” and would be “very different” from current smartphones—optimized purely for running high-performance AI computing at maximum efficiency per watt.

But just as the rumor mill gained momentum, Musk himself pushed back. In a series of tweets responding to users sharing the Reuters report, he flatly denied the company is developing a phone, even going so far as to call the story a lie.
