TechBBQ secures €2M grant to boost Denmark’s global startup presence
Denmark’s largest startup ecosystem hub, TechBBQ, has secured a major boost with a €2 million strategic grant from the Danish Industry Foundation, setting the stage for a bold new chapter in the country’s global tech ambitions. Since its founding in 2013, TechBBQ has evolved into one of Northern Europe’s most influential platforms for technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, drawing thousands of founders, investors, business leaders, and policymakers to its flagship Copenhagen event each year.
This latest injection of funding—spanning from 2026 to 2028—will power the TechBBQ – Denmark’s Tech Lighthouse project, a visionary initiative aimed at elevating Denmark’s international profile in the tech and innovation landscape. The grant, totaling DKK 15 million (around €2 million), will be distributed as DKK 5 million annually, providing the resources to amplify Denmark’s voice on the global stage and reinforce its reputation as a leading tech nation.
The Danish Industry Foundation has been a steadfast supporter of TechBBQ, with previous backing from 2023 to 2025 playing a pivotal role in driving the organization’s international growth. Now, with this renewed commitment, TechBBQ is poised to further strengthen Denmark’s competitive edge in attracting capital, talent, and knowledge from around the world.
Thomas Hofman-Bang, CEO of the Danish Industry Foundation, emphasized the strategic importance of the support: “Denmark boasts a vibrant entrepreneurial environment, but in the fierce global competition for investment, talent, and expertise, visibility is key. TechBBQ serves as a vital connector, bringing together the ecosystem and forging the international relationships that Danish startups need to thrive. With this funding, we aim to help Denmark assert itself more clearly as a premier destination for tech and innovation.”
Avnit Singh, CEO of TechBBQ, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the transformative potential of the grant: “This support allows us to build on our past achievements and further develop TechBBQ as a leading international platform that unites the Danish ecosystem around a shared vision. Most importantly, these funds will directly benefit Danish entrepreneurs by enhancing their access to international investors, specialized talent, cutting-edge technological knowledge, and expansive global networks.”
The timing of this investment is particularly significant. Since 2025, TechBBQ has been headquartered at Bella Centre Copenhagen, a partnership that provides an ideal foundation for scaling its impact. Combined with the Danish Industry Foundation’s backing, TechBBQ now has the optimal conditions to integrate global perspectives and foster deeper connections across Denmark’s startup and innovation communities over the next three years.
Looking ahead, the funding will be strategically deployed to further develop TechBBQ’s role as a premier international platform, with a sharp focus on attracting top-tier investors, experts, and talent to Denmark. The 14th edition of TechBBQ, scheduled for August 26–27, 2026, at Bella Centre Copenhagen, promises to be a landmark event, showcasing Denmark’s growing influence in the global tech arena.
This latest milestone underscores Denmark’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a thriving startup ecosystem and positions TechBBQ as a central force in driving the nation’s tech ambitions forward. As the world watches, Denmark is set to shine even brighter on the global innovation map.
