BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A recent survey showed that two out of three Louisiana residents would trade their lifetime’s internet browsing history to clear their credit card debt.
The survey, conducted by CardRates.com, asked 3,000 people if they would trade their lifetime’s internet history data to eliminate their credit card debt.
The survey found that 68% of Louisianans would trade their lifetime browsing data for instant debt relief. New Hampshire residents said they were the least willing to make the trade.
According to the website, Americans face a credit card debt of $1.13 trillion. The average credit card debt in the U.S. is $6,295.
“By handing over this data, consumers expose themselves to potential privacy breaches, targeted advertising, and even identity theft. Moreover, as technology advances and data becomes increasingly valuable, the long-term cost of surrendering your digital footprint may far outweigh the short-term relief of debt elimination,” the survey said.
