Google’s Pixel 9 Series To Take On The iPhone’s Genmoji With Its AI-Powered Creative Assistant Tool

While Google jumped on the AI bandwagon quite early and has brought some revolutionary platforms, such as the Gemini, it seems to be working aggressively to ensure no artificial intelligence feature is missed. Just over a week after Apple announced its AI-generated emojis, termed Genmoji, that would help create custom emoji characters, Google has stepped into the game with its own version of the creative tool and is set on launching the feature with the Pixel 9 series.

Google is working on bringing an Apple-like custom emoji feature to the Pixel 9

Apple recently shared its focus on bringing more personalization through AI-powered customization tools, and its Genmoji is a revolution in custom-built stickers and characters that could have marked its distinctive position. Google would not be left behind when it comes to initiatives and reportedly has an upcoming Creative Tool to help create custom emojis in the works.

According to a report by Android Authority, the generative AI tool would be called Creative Assistant and could be featured on the upcoming Google Pixel 9 series that is coming later this year. It looks like the feature would be reserved for Pixel devices for now, but whether the capabilities would be on-device or cloud-based is still uncertain.

The report highlights how the feature was confirmed through the code appearing twice in the latest Android 15 beta 3. Even though the option is not yet available for testing, there is a high chance users will be given the choice to remix stickers through generative AI in subsequent builds. Speculation is that the Tensor G4 chip will be used for the on-device custom sticker generation, and the company could replicate Apple’s approach of making the technology exclusive to the Pixel 9 series.

While Google has been offering the option to create and customize stickers with its Gboard keyboard app for quite some time, with the help of AI integration, personalization could be taken to a whole new level. The Creative sticker tool could be using Google’s Markup app, which already deals with editing and labeling digital images with the help of machine learning.

With AI being the key element for differentiating between devices, Google, with its Creative tool, might be able to add a unique selling point to the Pixel 9 series, helping it stand out from the other Android devices. However, this exclusivity could be short-lived given the clues regarding the feature also coming to other Tensor-driven Pixels.
