SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. —
Charter Communication lines were cut on Tuesday morning in an act of vandalism, leaving residents in Redding, Anderson, Shasta Lake and Palo Cedro without internet.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says deputies were called to the area of Highway 273 and Canyon Road at 4:35 a.m. for reports of vandalism to the communication lines. Following their investigation, they determined someone had cut the lines that supplies Charter Spectrum Internet and Verizon 4g Internet for all communities in the Redding area basin.
The SCSO says technicians have arrived at the scene and are making repairs. Spectrum officials say some services have already been restored.
“Our fiber lines were cut this morning as a result of vandalism in the South Redding area that affected Redding, Shasta Lake and other surrounding communities,” Spectrum said in a statement. “Due to the vandalism, the cutting of our fiber, we need to repair more than 650 strands of fiber to restore our service. Our technicians responded right away and we are currently making the necessary repairs to the fiber cuts to restore services as soon as possible.”
Spectrum says crews will be working to repair and replace the fiber lines until all services are restored today.
Additionally, the SCSO says they’ve located evidence that may identify the person(s) responsible for the vandalism.
Some viewers may be experiencing a disruption on FOX20, MyTV, Univision and Unimas as a result of the cut communication lines. You can rescan your TV to pick up some channels, Engineers are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
