WOW! outage causes issues for Bay County law enforcement

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The internet provider, WOW! has experienced an outage disrupting law enforcement.

The outage in Bay County has caused the non-emergency lines to go down in the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Communications Section, or dispatch. It is unclear when the non-emergency lines will be open for use again.

“We’re aware that customers in the Panama City, FL area are experiencing a service outage. We do not yet have an estimated time for resolution, but WOW! technicians are onsite scoping the issue and working to restore services as quickly as possible,” the internet provider posted to X on Tuesday.

In a second message posted to X, WOW! estimated services to be fully restored Tuesday evening. On Wednesday usage for some customers was restored.

“Panama City Outage Update: Crews worked overnight to resplice fiber lines to restore services in the area. While more customers have been restored, we’re working around the clock as quickly as possible to restore all remaining service,” WOW! posted to X on Wednesday.

All 911 emergency numbers are working at the BCSO and 911 is available in an emergency.
