SK telecom announced on July 17 that it has launched T In-flight Wi-Fi, a service that allows airline passengers to use a Wi-Fi service during a flight for the first time in Korea.

T In-flight Wi-Fi allows passengers to easily sign up for an in-flight Wi-Fi service through SK telecom’s T Roaming website and airport roaming centers without contacting an airline.

In the past, customers who wanted to use an in-flight Wi-Fi service had to check and pay for Wi-Fi enabled flights through airlines’ websites. They could only subscribe after boarding depending on airlines.

SK telecom, in collaboration with SK telink, global airlines and global satellite operators, has prepared the service that allows customers to check for available flights and subscribe to the service at one stop.

SK telecom collaborated with six airlines — Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, China Eastern, Air Canada, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways. The Korean mobile carrier will expand the number of partner airlines in the future.

T In-flight Wi-Fi is priced at three different rates per flight depending on distances — long-haul (29,700 won), medium-haul (19,800 won), and short-haul (17,600 won).
