Huawei Watch Fit 5 series announced
Huawei Watch Fit 5 Series Unveiled: Bigger Screens, Smarter Features, and Pro-Level Performance
Huawei has officially launched the fifth generation of its popular Watch Fit lineup, introducing the Watch Fit 5 and Watch Fit 5 Pro during a high-profile event that also saw the debut of the Pura X Max foldable, the Pura 90 Pro series, and the dazzling Watch Buds 2 and Watch Ultimate Star Diamond Edition.
Design Evolution with a Pro Upgrade
Both models retain the sleek, sporty aesthetic that made the Watch Fit series a hit, but the Watch Fit 5 Pro gets a significant visual upgrade. Thanks to slimmer bezels, Huawei managed to fit a larger 1.92-inch AMOLED touchscreen while maintaining a comfortable wrist presence. The Pro variant also features 2.5D sapphire glass and an eye-popping 3,000 nits peak local brightness, making it one of the brightest smartwatches on the market.
The standard Watch Fit 5 comes with a 1.82-inch AMOLED display and 2,500 nits brightness, still impressive for outdoor visibility. Both models support Always-On Display (AOD) watch faces and feature a dual-button layout—a digital crown and a shortcut button—on the right-hand side for intuitive navigation.
Premium Materials and Durability
While both watches feature aluminum midframes, the Watch Fit 5 Pro steps up with a titanium bezel, adding both durability and a premium feel. The Pro model also introduces ECG monitoring and depth sensing capabilities, making it suitable for serious athletes and divers. Both watches carry a 5 ATM water resistance rating, but only the Pro is certified for freediving up to 40 meters.
Advanced Health and Fitness Tracking
The fifth generation brings upgraded 6 LED and 6 PPG optical heart rate modules, along with temperature sensors for more accurate health monitoring. The Pro model’s ECG functionality adds another layer of health insight, while the depth sensor caters to underwater enthusiasts.
Activity tracking remains comprehensive, with a wide range of sports modes and an updated cycling mode similar to the one found on the Watch GT 6 Pro. Both models in the Chinese market feature dual-band GNSS positioning, NFC, and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity—features we hope will make their way to global versions.
Smart Features and Battery Life
Huawei has added a voice recorder to both models, allowing users to capture meetings or ideas directly from their wrist—a practical addition for busy professionals. The watches also retain their microphone and speaker, enabling voice commands and calls.
Battery life is impressive, with Huawei claiming up to 7 days of normal usage or 10 days with lighter use. AOD mode reduces this to 4 days, still competitive in the smartwatch market. Charging is handled via Huawei’s proprietary magnetic puck charger.
Pricing and Availability
The Watch Fit 5 comes in five colors—purple, green, white, black, and silver—and is priced at CNY 1,099 (approximately $161). The Watch Fit 5 Pro offers black, white, and orange options, starting at CNY 2,199 (around $322). Both models will go on open sale in China on April 29, though international availability has yet to be announced.
